What is Advent Pastor Bill. I know it is starting today the first Sunday in December…right? Advent is a season of waiting, expecting, and hoping. Beginning four Sundays prior to Christmas and ending on Christmas Eve, Advent helps us prepare for the coming, or “advent” of the Christ child at Christmas. (The word “advent” comes from the Latin word that means “coming.”)

The Colors of Advent:

Purple has traditionally been the primary color of Advent, symbolizing repentance and fasting. Purple is also the color of royalty, demonstrating the anticipation and reception of the coming King celebrated during Advent.

Pink (or rose) is also one of the colors of Advent used during the third Sunday. It represents joy or rejoicing and reveals a shift in the season away from repentance and toward celebration.

White is the color of the center Advent candle, representing purity. Christ is the sinless, spotless, pure Savior. Also, those who receive Christ as Savior are washed of their sins and made whiter than snow.

Christian Education: Sunday School Classes are going on each Sunday.  Join us any Sunday at 9:15 am.

I am second has started.  Are you prepared to share your story when someone asks?

A Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, is a group of volunteers who work with local government emergency services during a disaster to provide assistance to the community. Following a major disaster, first responders who provide fire and medical services will not be able to meet the demand for these services. As residents of Currituck County, we are all too familiar with events such as wildfires, tornadoes, hurricanes and floods. History shows that during such disasters, community members automatically pitch in to help one another. However, without training, sometimes they inadvertently cause further injuries or hurt themselves while attempting to give assistance. Through training, citizens can learn how to respond most effectively in emergency situations. Training every Sat in Jan 9am-3:30. More details coming later.
