CHURCH HISTORY

BRIEF HISTORY
(The Spiritual Gateway to the OBX)
Moyock United Methodist Church was established in approximately 1810 on the corner of South Mills Road and Camellia Drive in Moyock. It was later moved to the corner of Highway 168 (now Caratoke Highway) and Puddin’ Ridge Road.

In 1995, it was apparent that we needed more space as the congregation kept growing and so a capital campaign was begun in 1995 with the desire to raise $200,000.

This goal was achieved, and two donations of land were received along with a generous gift for furnishings for the proposed new facilities. We have always had members who gave from their hearts and who met every need we had, despite trying economic times.

In January of 2001, our church family began to pray the prayer of Jabez in First Chronicles, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!”

God did bless us, and we moved into our present facilities in March, 2003.
These facilities consist of:
  • comfortable worship space that seats 300
  • educational space with 3 full size classrooms and a nursery.
  • fellowship hall that seats 150 for dinner
  • choir room for practice.
  • board room, library and 3 admin offices complete the building.
  • storage rooms and rest rooms

A 5,000 sqft stand alone daycare building is also on our 7 acre property.

The New Moyock UMC continues to be a spiritually vital and healthy church with a very active and compassionate congregation.  We plan to be here for another 200 years in ministry to the community of Moyock and beyond.
