John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, said, "The world is my parish." We agree with Wesley that Church is about serving God by serving others. For us, Church is not the place in which we gather on Sunday mornings for worship, rather, Church is what we do and who we are.
At Moyock United Methodist Church, we realize that discipleship is a continuous journey.
What does a disciple of Jesus look like? In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus teaches that we are to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength—and that we are to love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves (Mark 12:30-31). Deuteronomy 6:13 tells us that we are to worship and obey the LORD and serve only him. Therefore, a disciple of Jesus Christ is one who loves God, loves others, and serves God.
Next we need to ask ourselves how we best serve God. Jesus offers us some insight to this question in Matthew 35:31-46 where he teaches that “whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me” and “whenever you failed to help any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you failed to do it for me.” (Common English Translation)
